The simple fact is that an outstanding chapter will be of
some help to a campaign, but a chapter with problems is in
a position to completely derail a campaign. They can either
help a little or hurt a lot.
Alumni fundamentally care about a few things to do with the
present and future of the chapter. The chapter must be able
to show excellence and/or vision to excel in:
• Financial Management • Upkeep
of the House
•
Scholarship • Recruiting Ability
•
Conduct • Alumni/Campus/Community/Parent Relations
•
Brotherhood Development • Hosting Visiting Alumni
and Guests
Each undergraduate must be willing to donate individually
to show their commitment.
Challenging Situations
• Chapter has been closed for many years
• Consistently weak undergraduate chapter
• Chapter carrying significant debt
• Recent bad publicity for the chapter
• History of poor treatment of alumni, guests, legacies,
and potential members
It is necessary that we address the current state of
the undergraduate chapter, as potential problems can
severely affect the results of the overall campaign.
Strategies...
...to overcome, or prevent these situations:
• Separate advising and advisors from the House Corporation
and its board members.
• Hire a live-in advisor, house mother, or resident manager
if at all possible.
• Be involved, but not overly involved, in chapter operations.
• Hold the chapter and all undergraduate members to very
high standards.
• Communicate to the undergraduate chapter that the
House Corporation will not move forward with plans unless
the
chapter is holding up its end of things.
